McCarthyism comes to a bitter end
After years of abusing power and manipulating America, Senator Joseph McCarthy's reign was coming to a bitter end. Welch had absolutely ruined McCarthy, who lost almost all of his support. After stepping down as chairman, McCarthy lost patronage in the Senate. Republicans soon lost control of the Senate. The Senate then voted 67 to 22 to censure McCarthy for Misconduct on December 2nd, 1954. After losing all fame, power, and any credibility, McCarthy turned to alcohol. Three years later, Joseph McCarthy was dead due to liver failure.
