McCarthyism and the Red Scare was a nation wide witch hunt for communists and communist sympathizers that turned the country against itself. Nick - named McCarthyism, was the rigorous investigation of those accused of communism. Most accused had little to no evidence against them. Although McCarthyism and the Red Scare helped make the country feel safe from any communist threat, the aftermath of McCarthyism was not quite intended.
